The median income of Carter County residents was an inflation-adjusted $18,776 per year. Carter County had 2,403 households in 2017, with a population of 6,255.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Platte County. Platte County's median income was $38,008 per year after adjusting for inflation – $19,232 more than Carter County. It had 38,147 households in 2017 and a population of 96,899.
