Bob Onder, a U.S. Congressman, used his social media platform in early November 2025 to criticize Democratic lawmakers and highlight concerns about religious violence abroad.

On November 4, Onder posted: “Let’s be clear about what’s happening: Democrats have voted 14x to keep the government shut down. They’re refusing to pay our air traffic controllers, TSA agents, and thousands of other federal workers who keep America running.

The following day, he addressed international human rights issues in Nigeria: “For years, Christians in Nigeria have faced unspeakable violence; churches burned, villages raided, women and children kidnapped, enslaved and murdered. This is a human tragedy, and I have been outspoken in my support of President Trump’s efforts to end this genocide.

Later that same day, Onder reiterated his criticism of congressional Democrats regarding the ongoing government shutdown: “I’m furious. Democrats are complaining about the government being shut down, yet every single day, they have the power to open it back up and they refuse.

They’re not fighting for working families. They’re not fighting for taxpayers.

They’re fighting for themselves. For https://t.co/pW4LBtCX4u” (November 5).

Government shutdowns can occur when Congress fails to pass appropriations bills or continuing resolutions necessary to fund federal agencies. Such shutdowns result in furloughs for many federal employees and delayed services until funding legislation is enacted.

Violence against Christians in Nigeria has been widely reported by international organizations over recent years. Incidents include attacks on villages and places of worship as well as kidnappings by armed groups targeting Christian communities.
