Congressman Bob Onder of Missouri’s Third Congressional District has issued a statement following his vote to approve a Continuing Resolution (CR) that ends the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.

Onder highlighted the impact of the shutdown, noting that 750,000 federal employees missed paychecks and TSA agents worked without compensation. He also mentioned that families were uncertain about their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits during this period.

Onder credited Republican leadership for moving to reopen the government, stating: "The longest government shutdown in our nation's history has finally come to an end. Thanks to strong Republican leadership, the Senate voted to reopen the government and put America First."

He emphasized his commitment to representing Missourians by working on issues such as economic growth, border security, protection of women's sports, and support for first responders. Onder said: "I'm grateful to be back in Washington, fighting for Missourians; to strengthen our economy, secure our nation's borders, protect women's sports, and honor our first responders."

The congressman pointed out that he had previously voted to fund the government on September 19th and expressed willingness to continue voting for funding throughout the shutdown if given the chance. "I would have voted every single day since this shutdown began if given the opportunity, just as my Republican colleagues in the Senate did repeatedly," Onder stated.

Looking ahead at legislative work in Congress, Onder referenced Speaker Johnson's remarks about upcoming challenges: "As Speaker Johnson stated, there will be 'long days and long nights' ahead on Capitol Hill, and he's right."

Onder concluded his statement by thanking constituents and expressing pride in serving Missouri.
