WASHINGTON, D.C. – On May 25, Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03), released a statement following House passage of the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act. This legislation would make the temporary class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances permanent and ensures law enforcement has the tools they need to keep these extremely lethal and dangerous drugs off our streets.
“This year, fentanyl deaths are up 23.3%, and Customs and Border Patrol has seized over 17,000 pounds of this lethal substance – already more than the 2022 total. Immediate action needs to be taken to stop the flow of deadly fentanyl into our country that is taking American lives every day,” said Luetkemeyer. “This legislation would bring a permanent solution and give law enforcement officers in Missouri and across the nation the ability to better protect our communities.”
Background:
Congressman Luetkemeyer has been a champion for fentanyl reform for several years. His legislation, the SIFT Act was first introduced in the 116th Congress and has since garnered support from Missouri Prosecuting Attorneys Association, International Union of Police Associations, Missouri Police Chiefs Association and the National District Attorneys Association.
