Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer (MO-03) has raised serious questions about the conduct of Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Chair Martin Gruenberg. This occurred during a Committee on Financial Services hearing titled, “Oversight of Prudential Regulators”. The congressman's queries centered around allegations of race and gender discrimination, anger mismanagement, and sexual assault as outlined in a recent report by law firm Cleary Gottlieb.

Last week, Cleary Gottlieb released an independent, nonpartisan report that confirmed widespread misconduct at the FDIC. The report detailed a toxic workplace culture within the agency, including instances of verbal abuse, sexual assault, and discrimination.

During the hearing, Congressman Luetkemeyer said to Gruenberg: “Sir, there were 92 harassment claims, according to the report. You have to be either totally incompetent or allowing it to go on. The report talks about gender and race discrimination, sexual harassment, nepotism, and your anger management issues. But we know some more, sir. I’ve been here a long time; this is my 14th year on this Committee. You lied to me, you lied to the Chairman, and you lied to the Committee about Operation Chokepoint."

He continued his rebuke by saying: “Mr. Gruenberg, you have become the Michael Cohen and Harvey Weinstein of the FDIC, and you need to go. If you have any decency, please step down. If not, I would urge the President of the United States to replace you ASAP."

For further information or queries regarding this matter or other concerns related to Congressman Luetkemeyer's work in Congress constituents are encouraged to visit his official website or call his offices in Jefferson City (573-635-7232) or Cottleville (636-327-7055).
