The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has announced that Kelli Jones will take on the role of deputy commissioner for the Division of Learning Services. Jones is set to begin her new position on November 1, 2024, bringing over 20 years of experience in education.
“Kelli brings a blend of vision, analytical skills, communication prowess, and enthusiasm for education,” stated Commissioner of Education Karla Eslinger. “I am looking forward to working with such a dynamic leader!”
A native of Missouri, Jones currently holds the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for Governor Mike Parson. She stepped into this role in July 2023 after serving as Parson’s Communications Director and Press Secretary since 2018 during his tenure as Lieutenant Governor and later as Governor. Her contributions have been notable in securing full funding for the Foundation Formula, increasing educators’ salaries, and improving pay for veteran teachers.
Before her involvement in state government, Jones was part of State Technical College of Missouri from 2003-2018 as the Communications and Social Science Department Chair and an instructor. In this capacity, she led curriculum development, managed assessment plans, taught courses in communication/English, and offered dual credit courses at area high schools.
Jones earned both her bachelor’s degree in arts and letters and her master’s degree in communication and management from Missouri State University.
